Elementary School
There are different types of primary schools. This way you have schools where only in the Papiamento education is, entirely in Dutch, a combination of Papiamento and Dutch and an international school. All private schools are Dutch-language, but many regular primary schools are also increasingly switching to Dutch-language education. Many schools, especially the popular ones, have waiting lists. It is therefore important to register a child on time and to maintain good contact with the school.
Secondary school
There are three directions in secondary education. These are VSBO (prepared secondary education), Havo (higher general education) and Vwo (pre-university education). The secondary school has been reimbursed by the government, so that only the costs for textbooks have to be paid. The length of secondary school depends on the chosen direction. In contrast to primary school, the vast majority of secondary schools are taught in Dutch.
University
After high school there are various further education that can be done. The direction depends on the high school level. Curaçao has two universities: University of Curaçao (UoC) and The University of the Dutch Caribbean (UDC).
