Curaçao is a beautiful island with a lot to do. If you want to do something active during your stay, walking is a great idea! You have national parks, two mountains that you can climb and a very nice center where there is plenty to do. If you really want to take a good walk or climb one of the mountains, it is recommended to do this early in the morning. This is because the temperatures on Curaçao are high and it is not wise to take a long walk in the sun in the middle of the day. But what are the nicest walking routes on Curaçao?
The highest mountain located in the West of Curaçao is the Christoffelberg. From the top of the mountain you have a view of the whole island! On a clear day it is even possible to see surrounding countries.
If you've seen photo’s of Curaçao, you've probably also seen the colored houses of the trade quay. The trade quay is located in the center of Willemstad on the edge of the Punda district. The center also consists of the Scharloo, Pietermaai and Otrobanda districts. There are murals throughout the center that you can all admire with an art route. The neighborhoods are so beautiful that they are also on the UNESCO World Heritage List!
Have you always wanted to see how the sea crashes fiercely against cliffs? This spectacle can be seen in the national park Shete Boka. The park is located on the north side of Curaçao where the sea is a lot rougher than in other parts of the island. At Shete Boka there are two hiking trails that you can walk.
The second major mountain on Curaçao is Table Mountain. As you can see in the picture above, the mountain has a flat surface which can be compared to a 'table'. Hiking at Table Mountain is also possible during sunrise or sunset!
